Entity Resolution

Two records that say "J. Smith" and "John Smith" might be the same person, or they might not be. Entity resolution is the process of figuring out which records refer to the same real-world thing, even when the data doesn't match exactly. It shows up constantly in customer data, product catalogs, and any dataset stitched together from multiple sources with inconsistent formatting.
